I am going to give in to my youngest daughter¿s constant nagging and provide wireless internet access for her aging F305 notebook (running windows 98) in combination with my GR114SK (XP Pro).
This seems a reasonably cheap solution.
At present I have a USB DSL modem connected (1.1 Mbps) to my notebook. Any comments or recommendations will be appreciated.
Thanks Seb & Kee-Lo, I think that I will place an order for it tomorrow.
If you have questions, then ask us.
The easiest way is to connect first your PC with the Router via cable. Then it's no problem to configure the Router. If the WLAN card connected too, then activate the MAC-address filtering. I would also use a stronge IP address, because then you could deactivate the DCHP-server feature. Which give every new network card automaticly a IP-address. UPNP is also useless. I would deactivate this too.
My Router has a Online counter which is useful if you want controll the Internet traffic.
Here is my Router : FritzBox SL-WLAN
This is my routher come with a wireless card for my old vaio which doesnt had wireless..just what i needed..

Yes you can file share with your dfaughter as it's a router.
Ok, thanks Kee-Lo.
Wireless good idea, but you daughter might want to know the following:
1. Mobile and MSN at the same time not possible, signal interfere.
2. Its insecure so her Dad can tap into the conv as it were!

well, not really!
you'll be surprised at what you find!
