Sony CR19VN/B hd replacement

Hi all i am looking to sell my sony vaio cr19vn/b laptop to get something quicker as the startup and shutdown on this thing takes ages its driving me mad. Especially as my girlfriend has just bought a toshiba l300d-18e and its so bloody quick.

Anyway my question is as im going to sell it onwards i want to replace my hard drive with a new one so none of my personal data is left on the computer. Which hard drive do i need to buy and is this really necessary or is there another way to erase all of my personal data so that it cannot be recovered?

Also how much do you think it is worth about a year old in mint condition?

Thanks

How experienced are you with reinstalling windows without recovery partitions/drivers etc?

If ok, do a google search on LLF or Low Level format
It will take hours, in some cases a whole day depending on size of drive but it goes sector by sector formatting it

Obviously for full security change the drive but LLF and reinstall should be fine.

If you replace the drive, I assume you will need a 2.5" sata drive (whatever size you want)

Hi mate tbh not that experienced so i will opt for changing the hard drive itself. I was not sure which one to buy? So are you saying i can use any 2.5" sata drive or is there a particular model?

Thanks

Nope any should do...as long as its 2.5" and not 3.5" (which goes in a desktop)
I normally for myself go for Western Digital though Seagate have been good to me as far as laptop ... and I steer away from the likes of IBM, Fujitsu, Toshiba
But if it's just to sell off, then the cheapest will do : -)
