Sony Drive type??? Sony DW-D56A

Hi,
How can I tell which type of optical drive my laptop has. There is an update for Sony DW-D56A available, but I don't know if that is what I have or not?

I wouldn't underestimate this.

I agree with you! I have a laptop Vaio A397XP. I also use DW-D56A. whenever I use this drive to write CD or DVD it always have errors( I just write only 10 minutes). It just write about 400 MB in CD. I very angry!!!
I try many ways to fix this problem but I can't --->disapointed.

****, i have the same problem with this FIrmware 😞 and the new Firmware from 4.5.05 cannot Install. I hope that Sony comes with a new Firmware the next days. My Book is a a215m with DW-D56A

I have an A317M and I recommend you not to install any firmware updating at least you experiment critical problems in your optical drive. Firmware updating is so dangerous.
