Sony Fe21b Power Management
Hi I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to change the power settings on a Vaio Fe21b - I can get to the control panel and chnge the profiles but I was wondering if there were deeper settings like altering the brightness for specific profiles or turning down the cpu etc...I have seen these options on other laptops - acer etc but was wondering if there is a sony power management utility or a third party one?
regards,
Matt

Hi MrMatt,
Welcome to Club Vaio,
Yes you can change the Vaio power schemes, click Start > Control panel > Performance and Maintenance > Power options.
Goto the Power Schemes tab and select the scheme of your choice, then select the Vaio Power management tab to adjust the LCD brightness, for the CPU you may have the options of Performance, adaptive or battery life...:smileyhappy:

hi there,
thanks for your quick response. I just checked and I do not have a performance and maintenance option...should this not be the case?
Thanks,
Matt

There is also a brightness adjustment option called "smartdimmer" in your Nvidia Control Panel. They have a handy option to dim your screen a certain percentage when you don't use your laptop for a certain time (when on battery), like some sort of screen saver.
But I think the sony power management is prior to that, so main brightness settings should be done there.
You can also reach this window by right-clicking your desktop, choosing the screensaver tab and then clicking the energy button in the bottom of the window.

Hi MrMatt
You may not have performance and maintenance in your control panel if your are using Classic View, if that's the case just select Power Options in the Control panel or alternatively right click the battery icon or AC power icon in the system tray (next to the clock on the task bar) and select Adjust power Options...:smileyhappy:

Hi again,
Thanks for your suggestions. I can find the options you have mentioned but they seem somewhat incomplete. From what you have been saying and from my help file i should have a tab headed VAIO Power Management in power options....however I do not so I cannot adjust any power settings. Does anyone know how I could sort this out?

On an FE21B you certainly should have a Vaio Power Management tab in your energy options.
Did you make any modifications to your software? (reinstall windows, uninstall some sony utilities,...)

Hi MrMatt,
Download the Preinstalled Utilities from Vaio-Link then extract and install in the following order
1 Utils Installer 1 SonyUtils DLL
2 Utils Installer 2 Sony Shared Library
3Utils Installer VAIO Power Management
Once they are all installed reboot your Vaio..
You may have to do this several times..:smileyhappy:
