Sony LA3 PC remote control RM-MCE20E not responding

My Sony Windows Media Player remote control, model number RM-MCE20E doesnt seem to be responding, when I press a button on the remote the LA3 pc registers it as there is a red light that gets activated, however nothing happens on the pc. This seems to be happening more and more frequently and often starts working after a restart but now doesnt seem to be doing that too.

The pc is just a few weeks old and nothing has been deleted. Is this a known issue and is there any solution?

I have a very similar problem and would appreciate some help too. Could it be a driver? I can't seem to find the driver for the IR device. Thanks in advance.
