Sony VAIO not booting up

My Sony Vaio model: PCG-81112M does not boot up.

Product Name: VPCF13S0E

This is what happens when press power button to switch ON the laptop, VAIO logo comes up on the screen and when it disappears I can only see cursor blinking on the top left corner and it stays here forever until I press power button to turn it off.

I can go into bios by pressing F2 during booting up, bios seems fine. It show me bios version, memory, hard disk etc..

Can someone please assist what could be the problem and how to resolve it.

I was thinking to try to upgrade BIOS but not sure if the problem related to BIOS or something else.

thanks

Hi kamranhaider77 and welcome.

Leave the BIOS alone - you are more likely to make things worse!

Check if your hard drive is just corrupted or totally dead.  On startup, when you see the Vaio Logo, tap F2 repeatedly to enter the BIOS screens.  Check if the BIOS recognises a hard drive or if it says HDD Not Present.

If the drive is not recognised, you will probably need to replace the hard drive.  Did you make a set of Recovery Discs when prompted by Vaio Care when you first got the Vaio?

If the drive is recognised, try downloading a bootable Windows 7 Repair disc.  This disc will just allow you to run the repair tools for an existing Windows system: -

HAve you tried booting into Safe Mode - hit F8 whilst the system is booting

If you can post back here for further advice

Otherwise seems like possible hard ware issue and could be a number of things eg hard disc failure, memory, graphics card, etc

I tried booting into safe mode via F8 but no joy. The problem seems to be before loading/starting windows as there is just blinking cursor after Sony Vaio logo. Safe mode wont work because it does not attempt to load windows, the problem seems to be before windows loading. Not sure what to do. Do you thing I should consider updating bios...?

you are able to restore in safe mode (f8) so your laptop is not completely dead, but you do have a corrupted OS. Now, if an infections caused the problem to begin with, doing a restore (a recent one) may have just copied the infection back to the OS. If you realize that the further back you go in the restores, the more work reinstalling things you will have, but you might try an older restore point.

Might also try removing all memory sticks, and boot with one stick, then the other to see if memory is failing. Also in safe mode run chkdsk /r on hard drive.

step 1: Try to download a linux version like "mint" or "ubuntu". Prefferably  the mint dvd iso ( the operation is like windows with different name of shorcuts etc). They are both free.

http://www.linuxmint.com/download.php

http://www.ubuntu.com/download

step 2: Then use the program called "universal usb installer" to make a bootable usb in three steps.

http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/

step 3: Go into BIOS and make the usb first boot device.

step 4: Then boot from usb.

1) If you have errors in ram stick it will not load.

2) If your hdd is faulty when the linux is loaded check the disk

3) check other components

4) live cd or live usb  will not install anything unless you choose this option

Hey, how did u end up resolving your issue?

I seem to be having the same problem?

Did you need to re-install or reboot or were you able to fix it by downloading the bootable windows repair disc?

Thank you
