Sony Vista Software does not work ... what to do?

Sorry for the double posting but some people only read one forum.

Problem: Sony VGC-VA1 trying to use a new 8Gb Memory Stick (MSX-M8GS). PC is running Sony's version of Windows Vista Home Premium. Web site says to download and use file MemoryCardReaderwriterU07S.exe. We've done this but nothing happens - nada, zip - it just sits there and does nothing. On the Sony Update icon, (Task Bar), there is another file which says it should be run called YEFMCC-01414900-UN. This runs, finds the card reader and says it will update the firmware to version 5. You press START to run it, and after several attempts, it fails saying that the cad reader is not accessible and you have to shut down the PC.

Nothing has worked and we know that the 8Gb card is OK as this works without issue in the UX1XN we have.

Tried to issue an e-Support ticket, but the PC has disappeared from the list we have registered (along with my new UX1XN) so I cannot even ask the question.

Any ideas people - this is really beginning to annoy us!
