Why is Sony not giving any information about issues with Vista on our notebooks ? Why is there no place (a special forum?) to tell us what to do or what to expect ?
I have installed Vista home premium on my Vaio VGN FE11M and have several problems, even if the vista upgrade adviser said it would be ok. It works ok in general (aero is fine) :
- problem with the bluettoth device driver (I found a solution on the web)
- impossible to run "sony vaio update" anymore
- impossible to find settings for brightness, contrast, or refreshment rate set to 60HZ and can not be changed,
- impossible to set sony vaio power management, not working anymore...
Thank you.
My main problem : I have lost access to the hotkeys, and brightness control , even after installing all the drivers and utilities, still gone...
I got the same problem of the VGN-A497XP which can not be driving in Vista Ultimate, hope the new drivers are release.
sweetCoffee,
Can you please let me know which driver and util got your brightness and sound keys working again ?
I've installed all drivers and utilities provided behind that link and
- FN keys still don't work
- Biometric device doesn't work [EDIT] It works now, don't ask how I did it, I have NO idea...
- Vista uses its own driver for wifi which I don't want
- I still don't see anything re. power management
- and so on.
I'm desperate to get my laptop working a little bit again (sound / brightness management and biometric device are the main things I need right now)
Thanks in advance for your input
Mels

Hello all
I will tell you step by step how I configured my Windows Vista Ultimate edition.
Please keep in mind that when you close the lid of your notebook, there will be some annoying things to happen when you set the action to "do nothing". Vista actually stops running and DOES NOTHING anymore, as the action told you lol. But that's a main problem for everyone so Microsoft will do the necessary for that.
Install Windows Vista Ultimate
I have installed the drivers in this order:
From the HARDWARE configuration tab itself, right click and update the following drivers:
Modem - HDAudio Softv92 Data Fax Modem with SmartCP
SonyNC - unknown (delivered with your previous XP) --> Sony Notebook Control Device
FlashMedia - mass storage (delivered with your previous XP)
Do the same for you USB Webcam 2.0 (delivered with your previous XP)
Run the FlashMediaSetting patch (delivered with your previous XP) --> you have to restart
Run the Nvidia video drivers --> restart
Run the Sigmatel audio drivers --> restart
Run the Memory Stick Icon patch do display the icon in the Computer section correctly
Run BtSwInst from the Bluetooth map (takes a long time) --> restart
Run iProDifX from the WirelessLAN map --> restart
------> so far your drivers have been reinstalled (no brightness controls work for the moment of course)
Applications/Utilities
----------------------
Run the Setting Utility Series
Run the Sony Shared Library
Run the Sony Utils DLL
Run the Sony Video Shared Library (zip file)
Run the VAIO Event Service ----> brightness controls and volume indication works !
Run the VAIO Control Center
Run the VAIO Power Management
Run the Battery Checker
Run the Camera Utility (my camera is installed but I cannot find it... yet)
Run the Wireless Switch Setting Utility (so you can choose to enable/disable bluetooth)
Now everything should work just fine.
I am using the VGN-FE11M as laptop and everything is smooth and fast, even Aero.

No sign of the Vista compliant version of VAIO Update though, it would be good to get a working version of this as the rest of the updates would be applied through this tool!
Come on Sony (can't believe I'm saying that as I work for SCEE!) but anyway please get this sorted!
Neil
Run the Setting Utility Series
