SVE1712C1EW recuperation kit RE-creation

As when I got my computer I could not create recuperation kit on the DVD I had, I created a recuperation kit on a USB flash support.

Now I bought other DVDs (accepted by my computer) I would like to free my USB flash support to use it for other activities and create a recuperation kit on DVD. But I cannot find any more in the "VAIO Care" menues the option to create another recuperation kit.

How can I get this possibility again and create a DVD kit ?

Hi heliode,

I get the impression that you have installed a retail copy of Windows 8 as a clean install on your machine? This is not supported by Sony.

If this is the case you may possibly have wiped the original recovery partition that is used to create the recovery media. To check whether the partition still exists open Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Storage > Disk Management. If it still exists you should see a Recovery Partition at the start of Disk 0 – size varies but may be in the region of 15 GB.

If it is still present you will need to install some or all of the original Sony utilities to reinstate Vaio Care and have access to the recovery partition in order to create a set of recovery media on DVD.

If all else fails then you can purchase a set of recovery media from Sony Support or return the macine to factory settings using your USB recovery media which will reinstate the recovery partition and then create the recovery disks on DVD.

Thank you rich912 for your interest.

Sorry if my description was not complete but I bought a new VAIO with Windows 8  already installed.

Regards.

Hi heliode,

My misunderstanding and I now realise that the brand of DVD that you initially tried to create the recovery media was incompatible.

Both Windows Vista & Win 7 Vaios allow more than one set of recovery media to be created – maybe Win 8 is different but not having access to Win 8 I am not certain.

There is the possibility that you can create DVD recovery media from the USB stick but I have no experience of this – you would need to speak to Support for confirmation. Also there is a possibility that uninstalling and then re-installing Vaio Care may reset the option but again you would need to seek advice from Support.

Another more drastic solution would be to return the machine to factory settings, which would reset Vaio Care, and then burn the DVD’s, or alternatively purchase a set from Sony Support.
