Please HELP,
Nearly everytime I start my (BRAND NEW VGN-T1XP 40 gig (if that helps)) laptop up it thrashes around like mad and most of the time my icons DON'T load in the system tray. If I end the explorer.exe process and restart it it either loads most of my icons or all of them.
Is there a solution to this problem?
Why is my system thrashing around like this @ start up?
Please HELP
I take it that explorer is taking large CPU usage until you end the process?
Have you carried out a scan for viruses, adware and spyware?
I've carried out an Norton AntiVirus scan out but not the others you mentioned. Not too sure the CPU usage but I suspect the way it thrashes around its working hard.
What do you suggest if you don't mind me asking?
To check on the CPU usage open Task Manager (Ctrl + Alt + Del) and look at the processes tab.
For Spyware/Adware removal I suggest that you download a free trial of
SpySubtract.
TuneUp, another free 30 day trial, will provide a good general health check on your system.
The CPU usage is 100% on start up. My icons will load on my desktop no problem but its my system tray that isn't. I've done a virus check and I've installed and used spysubtract but it still isn't working.
I'm also getting an error message on start up fixmapi.exe The procedure entry point WNetcachedpasswords could not be found int the dynamic link library MRP.dll
The above also happens when I start Outlook 2002.
So 2/3 problems. Ive done registery checks also and cleaned them up but with no joy.
Please Please can you HELP.....

It sounds as though the Mapi32.dll file is corrupted or in conflict and the Fixmapi utility is unable to correct the problem because an application is using it. Have you by any chance installed another email client recently?
To try and resolve this:
1 Create a restore point.
2. Quit all open programs.
3. Rename the Mapi32.dll file in C:\Windows\System32 to Mapi32.old.
4. Locate the Fixmapi.exe file in C:\Windows\System32, and then double-click Fixmapi.exe to run the program.
5. Restart your computer.
