Hi everyone,
I have 2 Vaio notebooks, SZ2XP en SZ1XP, carbon fibre models with razor thin LED screen.
Recently, backlight on SZ2XP suddenly died, when connected to an external monitor everything works fine and if you look at the screen closely with a lamp, everything is there.
Following instructions on insidemylaptop.com – razor thin lcd model is a bit different though, does not have a inverter – I opened up both notebooks and swapped the LED screens. The LED screen which was not working on SZ2XP worked fine on SZ1XP, the fine working SZ1XP LED screen put on SZ2XP had the same backlight issue. Swapping the LCD cables did not make any difference, bringing me to the conclusion that the SZ2XP LED screen and LCD cable are OK but something might be wrong with the motherboard.
However, after re-assembling the working SZ1XP, I turned the notebook on and guess what it had the same backlilght issue, I ended up with two notebooks having the same problem
After cooling my head down and doing some internet search I suspect that I might have an issue with the lid close switch causing backlight to stay off but I can not find the switch around the hinges. Does anyone have any idea where lid close switch would be and if my assumption could be correct?
Sorry for the long story,I just wanted to make sure I did not forget anything. Thanks a lot for your time!
Regards,
Enzo

Gish_x ... since you have done a few of these I was wondering your thoughts about DDC-6 vs. DDC-5. The newer SZ6 and SZ7 series seem to require the DDC-6 card to power the LED's.
Have you, in your experience, put the less expensive DDC-5 card in an newer SZ with any success?? They look the same and have the same connector.
Thx
