UK owners with GigaPocket - your help requested!

Hi all :smileygrin:
I am trying to decide whether to buy the RX514 or stretch a bit further for the RX104. The only debate for me is the GigaPocket suite and whether I can use it to capture from my Sky Digibox. It is difficult to see what connections are available, but can I use a Scart to 3 Phono from my decoder to the GigaPocket tuner? Or is it staight coaxial composite only?

Please could anyone confirm what connections are possible to the GigaPocket hardware, and what the best possible capture resolution that any of you guys have had sucessful MPEG capture at?

Perhaps there is a link / review / article anyone could point me to that really goes into the specs of the GiagPocket tuner?

Thanks for any help you can give to a new member, it will influence my imminent purchase!

I don't know particularly about those two models but the RZ104 does allow for the use of scart to 3 phono.I believe, havn't tested it myself yet!!Steve-o :!:




OOps i believe you meant the rz104 not rx104, in which case id go for the rz104, much better system, there are sockets for phono leads i havnt tried to use them tho.

Shame the RZ104 is such a wide margin more expensive though or I'd go straight for it. As far as I know the GigaPocket suite fitted to the RZ104 has got the three phono inputs, then I think it's safe to assume it will capture from decoder using a Scart to 3 Phono lead.

(although as Samuel L Jackson once said.."every time you make an assumption you make an a** out of u, and umption.."

Anyone else tried capturing from Sky Digibox?

I've not done Sky exactly but used a Free-to-Air Digital Satellite receiver. The RZ104 has both S-Video and Composite inputs, I used the Composite, and then watched it back using the S-Video out on the GFX adaptor.

Could you tell me what resolution you were capturing at? What file formats does the GigaPocket software allow you to save to, cos I read elsewhere that the GP software only outputs in a file format that only the integrated Click to Burn bit can read, rather than ususal file types.
I already have MPEG2 compiling and authoring software from doing DVD movie projects, so I'd want to be able to continue to use them to author. Can you save to .avi or .mpg for instance, with the audio track separate?

I captured using the HQ mode, can't remember the resolution. I think that's mentioned in the GP manual. There is software supplied to export the GP format to MPEG1 or MPEG2 format, and I think AVI, for use with other programs. As yet I have not had to opportunity to play with that aspect of it

Giga Pocket allways records in MPEG2, while you can select two different quality modes. It records in 720*576 at 25.00fps - that makes a great quality.

Concerning the export: Giga Pocket Explorer can export to MPEG2 (unchanged), MPEG1 and AVI. Since you have Adobe Premiere 6.0 LE installed, you can import the AVI files into Premiere, edit the content and then export into many other files.

If you want to burn the data later on with Clik to DVD, you will have to stick to AVI or MPEG2-Sony-source. But that should not be an issue I guess, once you record from Giga Pocket into MPEG2 anyhow...

Concerning your question to audio and video track separate: you will need to export into AVI, then you will have separate tracks.

If you have further questions let me know. I have a RZ104, and boy - that was my best buy! Such an easy use, such a performance, and best of all: the system is so silent! Really fun to work with.
