Unable coneecting via USB Activesync and Smartphone

I have problems in synchronoization of my Smartphone with Outlook 2003, via USB. I cannot reach the partnership phase in the communication procedure. It is stuck on the "Connecting..."

Did you get the latest update for Office 2003? Apparently there's a service pack 1.
