The UPEK update site just redirects you to Sony USA downloads which only lists USA models.
What version of Protector Suite QL do you have installed?

As far as I know, Sony has never provided any updates for PSQL - the TX-Series is still running on Version 5.3 and the very latest SZ71-Series is being released with PSQL Version 5.6.2.3651.
Version 5.8 has been available since July 2007.
You can download the Protector Suite QL Upgrade to Version 5.8.2.4272 from here: -
http://www.upek.com/support/downloads/psql_winqual/psql_upgrade.asp
The download includes Release Notes and ReadMe files.
There is also a new biometric driver dated 8/2/2008 available here which should further improve fingerprint recognition: -

Up to you really - I have to say that in case it goes wrong!!!
I do not have a Vaio with a fingerprint reader, but if it was me, I would download and install them both - there are meant to be significant improvements in the new versions. You can always reinstall the old Sony version if it doesn't work properly - but I'm sure it will be OK.
Make sure you read the Release Notes and ReadMe files - they explain how to keep your existing settings from the old version.
