Upgrading to the optimum RAM for the PCG-K215B

I've done much research into RAM now, and the various types and clock speeds. I'm looking for 2 512MB slots, totalling to the maximum capacity of 1GB.
I've visited Crucial.com and found that they sell their label with compliances PC2700, and DDR 333Mhz. But I've also found on Dabs.com that there's another Crucial brand RAM at PC3200, DDR 400Mhz.
The PC2700 DDR 333Mhz, has CAS latency of 2.5. Whereas the PC3200 DDR 400Mhz has latency of 3.

Does anyone have the PC3200 DDR 400Mhz installed into their K215B?
Or does this RAM work on the K215B?

Plus, is Kingston memory better than Crucial memory?

Here are the product links I've found:

If you haven’t already done so, I suggest that you re-visit the Crucial.com site and use their system analyser to determine which memory your notebook will accept.

Well, that WAS the very reason why I went to Crucial.com in the first place. :tired:

They do have the DDR400Mhz and the DDR333Mhz at the same price, but they didn't display the DDR400Mhz when I scanned my PC.

Is the PC3200 DDR400Mhz better than the PC2700 DDR333Mhz?

DDR memory is backwardly compatible, so in theory it should be possible to fit the faster module. Having said that the 400Mhz chip will probably operate no faster that the 333Mhz one if other components, such as your processor, are running at a lower speed. The Sony specifications suggest that the K215B was originally designed to use a 266Mhz DDR chip.

The memory offered by Crucial (ie the 333Mhz module) is guaranteed to be compatible with your notebook, but you could always give them a call or email to check out the options, they are usually very helpful.
