Using Vaio Roomlink Network with V Series to stream music to home stereo-Is it possible?

Hi,

I recently bought a V1 and have been really happy with it as an unit but bought the Vaio on the basis that I'd be able to use it as a server and stream video/pictures and music to my home entertainment centre and amplifier for my stereo for better sound.

However, I've just been told by e-support that the Vaio RoomLink, that would allow me to do this is only sold with the RS/RZ series and cannot be bought seperately. I was told to try another media streamer, but off course this won't work because of the Sony ATRAC3 compression not being compatible.

I asked if the RoomLink (PCNA-MR10) would work with the V series if I could get hold of one. The reply was "probably" but they would not provide any support for this course of action. Any experience of trying to do this out there or any tips for streaming music from your V series vaio pc to your stereo?

Thanks,

Alex.

Alex,

If they cannot be bothered supporting you, then I would go for another media streamer. OK, it means converting music, but it's less hassle, and less DRM infected.

Sod 'em I say.

We have a RZ221 desktop that did not come with Vaio Media (necessary for Roomlink). We then purchased a K115S laptop as well & this had Vaio Media installed & was supposed to be able to access Giga Pocket from another Sony PC but it only came with client software to install on another Sony PC, not server software. I contacted Esupport & they were really helpful & supplied the necessary software for the desktop enabling us to view the video, music & photos stored on the desktop on the laptop.
We were then lucky enough to find a Roomlink Network Media Receiver on Ebay. We took a chance & connected it up from the desktop to our TV & Audio system & it works fine. The onlty thing we cannot get to work is the "Watch Live TV" & Esupport suggested I contact Sony in Americe about this, which I still have to do, but other than this we can listen to music (we use ATRAC3 Plus), watch videos recorded with Giga pocket & view photos.
I found Esupport really helpful & cannot fault them.

Chris

Hi all,

Any chance of being able to provide some general advice on what's available? I have the same desktop and would like to stream music to my hi-fi, but don't want to spend a lot of time and money on the wrong thing purely because I don't know what I'm doing!

Thanks for your help Chris. Are there any other examples out there?
