VAIO K215Z SPEEDSTEP PROBLEM!

My K215z has a big problem with the speedstep and i think is a common problem for the K series.. if i use the battery my laptop should work at 1.6Ghz and it works at 3.06Ghz.. i have to restart my computer to work properly... does anybody knows how can i fix this?

Thank you.

You know Pixeldude, its odd. I have PhoenixBIOS Version 4.0 Release 6.0 (R0110X1) on my computer but I upgraded it with the files on VAIO-Link before I installed Service Pack 2.

After I installed the BIOS update, I then installed Service Pack 2 from Microsoft (the CD-ROM version - which is free to order), and my speedstep issues were fixed - permanently.

Last night for instance, I unplugged my laptop, and after running SonicStage, CMD (to do some programming), my CPU Speed fell dramatically from 2.80GHz to 334MHz and then rose up to 600MHz after launching a few more applications, before falling back down to 334MHz again, and I did not have to reboot either.

I would suggest removing Service Pack 2, restarting your computer in safe mode, and reinstalling Service Pack 2 in safe mode (Microsoft suggest doing this).

Failing this, if you have no joy with the above, then you need to speak directly to VAIO-Link (the official support service), either via eSupport or by telephone, and you can find all of the details from here

LOL .. i fixed the issue.. very strange ..
I just disabled SONY VAIO POWERMANAGEMENT and then i enabled it again after one restart..

I tested this for about 3 days of useing my notebook and no problem .. hope this fixed the bug.. i cant explain this..
i installed windows 2 times and i had the same problem .. but after doing this. it seems everything is fine

Thank you all
PS: If it will not work i will come back here and write.

Its not working it seems that randomly it happends this issue.. i dont know what it is to be done! i have SP2 .. but nothing is workin.. anyways i had enough of this problem.. i think i will have to get used with it..and accept it. sometimes i can change back the frequency if i choose from battery life to performance and back to battery life it changes back from 3.06 to 1.6ghz as it should be and stay.. anyways

if anyone will know how to fix this or if ever SONY will fix this bug please write me here.. thank you guys..
or if i will find a way i will write here the solution..

PS:does anybody knows a link for BIOS updates from phoenix as i cant find them on their website.

Phoenix develops custom Bios's for computer manufacturers and don¿t provide upgrades. The only source of upgraded Bios for your K215Z will be Sony :slight_frown:
