Vaio laptops with Hybrid Hard Drives

Sony has released new laptops last week (at least in Germany)...
Am I right that none of these laptops use Hybird Hard Drives (HHD)?

When will Sony release the first laptops with HHDs?

This type of drive is fairly new and so Sony are likely to be reluctant to use them. They are also alot more expensive than the standard HDD. You can of course replace your own drive with one as it is fully supported in Vista.

SSD (Soild State Drives) are also up and coming based purely and NAND flash they are upto 64 times faster than the Raptor series HDD. This will be the next major step in the development of computing and especially mobile computing as they require much less power and are much more efficent. Only draw backs are the price and the small capacities (32GB max at £300).

out of topic:

Samsung for example offers HybridDrives. It should not be a problem to upgrade a VAIO.
You just need the money and the abilities to do the upgrate. (Or someone who is doing it for you)

Samsung offer it because they are the main players in that market. They wanted to make a 500GB HHD with 1GB buffer. Crazy! :anguished:

I know that HHDs are fairly new, but still there not that new. Almost every laptop that will be released this year will use a HHD...
Reason: A laptop that hits the market after July 2007 that does not have a HHD will not recive the Windows Vista logo from Microsoft. (And most manufactures want that logo.)
I guess the current Vaio laptop generations will be the latest from Sony for at least 6 months...
I was hoping that the new Vaio's would use HHDs.
If I want the newest genaration of Hard Disks I would have to turn to a different company...pretty stupid in my eyes. 😞

By the way: HHDs are not that much more expensive than normal HDs. A 160 GB 2,5" HHD form Samsung for example costs about EUR 25 more than the 160 GB Disk without flash memory.

I think it's a great idea this HHD, but when you think flash memory will get cheaper, then they'll be redundant in 3 years time.
