Vaio Screen broken

Hi!

I have a Vaio FS285M notebook and I really enjoy working with it. The best notebook I've ever had, so far !

Today, my screen began to glimmer (to blink) and just a second later, it got completely dark. Nevertheless, everything works well (cuz I used my desktop monitor to proof the general functionality). When I try to swith between my screen and the monitor, I can see my background for a second, very grey though, before its dark again. The screen does make a sound, like "grrrgrrrgrr" before it gets dark.

What can it be? I know that I have to let it repair but just to know what kind of problem this could be, what do you guys think/suggest?

thx in advance,

gato

The lamp has gone.

Is it still under warranty? If not, then it's about to get very expensive! :slight_frown:

If it's the lamp, I'll take it. How much is it, though? Do you have any idea?

thx!!

It's nearly impossible to replace just a lamp (if you can even find one) so replacing the whole screen is your best option

You could try and buy one yourself and get it done yourself for maybe 200 Euro (that's approx what a local repair shop wanted when my lamp went last year).

If you want it done professionally it's going to cost a LOT more... 750 Euro would be my guess!

I ended up biting the bullet and buying a whole new laptop.

It could be the inverter board which supplies high voltage to the screen lamp.

Have a look here - NextTronics.com and find the part number (depends on one or two lamps)

Have a look HERE for an idea of price - if you have a dual lamp, you will need part no 147913713 (the last one on the list) which costs $256.41

Get someone to check it isn't just a wiring fault before you spend a lot of money.
