Vaio Screen Died today..
Well,I have had this Vaio since June 16th,this afternoon,I try to boot up and the Screen is Scrambled and not able to show any Window.Everything is blocky and flickering.I cant do a restore as theres no usable Screen, cant get in the Bios either.Obviously the Screen as gone kaput.
So I packed it all back in the box as when bought, took it back to PC WORLD in Hull, told them what has happened and I explained to the Manager that I wish to have the Product replaced for a Laptop of equal value(£1000),or they give me a refund, according to my Consumer Rights and the Law.He told me a load of waffle about there 28 day returns ect, said all they can do is send it for repair to Sony, that they are only an Agent for Sony.It is not there responsability and that Sony are responsable for refunding me,in the form of vouchers ect.I stated that I dont want another Sony Product and stipulated that I want a refund or Credit to choose another Laptop.
He then told me ,because I had bought it on Credit, its up to the Finance to sort it out ect.I then qouted him the Consumer Rights Laws and he again stated there Company Policy ect.
So I then told him that I know my Rights and I want a replacement Laptop or a credit note or a refund.he carried on telling me Company Policy.I then told him that his Company Policy means diddly sqaut,This is the Law made by Parliment and his Company Policy does not superceed the Law.He said it does...I couldnt believe what I had just heard.According to him,PC Worlds own Policies superceed British Law.All I could do was an about turn and leave with the Laptop. They just didnt want to know, despite been on TV again last week for the same thing. When are we the Consumer finally going to have the Law stamp this crap out for good. Why are they never taken before a Court and Prosecuted. So folks, any suggestions on what I can do.Any help would be appretiated.

Have you got access to an external display to see if it is the screen or the Graphics Card? Have you tried booting in Safe Mode (F8) which will load a default VGA screen driver?
Did you make Recovery Discs before you changed the OS? First thing Sony will ask you to do is a Full Recovery back to factory settings to see if works OK with the original OS and drivers. Sony will refuse support with a changed OS.

Good News Blencogo,I tried the vaio again, this time when I pressed the power button,I pressed the F8 straight away.It booted onto a normal screen, but not in Safe Mode.It went straight into a Sys Recovery from the HD Partition. It fully restored the system to factory default and is now running ok again.
What caused the Problem,I hav'nt a clue, its realy baffled me.Anyway,I have decided to leave the System as is now.Everything is running as it should again. So hopefully it wont throw another wobbly. Thanks for the reponse anyway, you saved me a lot of grief with the F8 suggestion.

That's a relief Frannys!
Another one of life's great mysteries.
Probably a good idea to wait for the full Vista version which will (hopefully) have full Sony driver support.

I will wait for the release now,at least I know the Vaio is Vista ready,I agree about the driver proberly been a likley culprit, but exactly which, who knows.I did see on Sony's site yesterday a statement about they been fully supportive of Vista, for its release,so I think they are already in the process of writing drivers ect.Thats good news from Sony anyway.

Yes, it's great that Sony are supporting Vista (not that they have much choice anyway unless they go Linux only (in our dreams!))
