Hi! Today my new Sony Vaio SZ4 arrived. Everything works fine except the Ethernet Connection. I have a Zyxel 661H 4-port router with 2 PCs connected to it. When I connect the SZ4 with the router the light doesn't turn on on the router to show connectivity. I have tried Cat5e and Cat6 cables on every port but nothing happens. On the laptop I have disabled anti virus and firewall protection and also bit defender. I have updated to the latest Intel PROset/Wireless drivers and LAN is not disabled on power options. I am desperate. Is it a faulty LAN port on the SZ4, some Vista problem or something wrong with the router? Please help me!!!
PS. Intel PROSet/Wireless drivers are for both Wireless and ethernet or not?
After much searching I found that all Vaio SZ models have Marvell Yukon Ethernet Controller. The problem is that in device manager under Network Adapters it doesn't appear, not even with a question mark or as a hidden device. So I guess it's a hardware problem? Is there any possibility that it might has been disabled from BIOS (although there isn't an option for LAN)?
Hi Nodens and welcome to Club Vaio.
Are you sure it isn't listed as an unknown device in the "Other Devices" or "Syaten" sections of Device Manager? If so, you can download the driver from SONY US DOWNLOADS SZ4
If not, then it does sound like a hardware problem - probaqbly a faulty port.

Unfortunately it's not listed. How can I be so unlucky? I have paid a fortune for this machine. It's one of the most expensive in the market. I am going to call Sony at Greece. I don't believe that they will say that I have to pay? I bought it today damned! It's not my fault! They must replace it! I am also afraid that they will keep it for days and I need it for my work. What should I do?...
You have only bought it today. Insist on your purchasers rights and return it to the vendor and ask for an immediate replacement. If one is not available ask for a full refund. These are your rights - don't let anyone try to say you have to wait for a repair - this is not the law.
You should not have to wait for them to fix it - stick to your rights and demand a refund or a replacement. The Vaio is not working properly and should not be sold in that condition.

try goin to the network connections in the control panel. from here make sure the ethernet connection is enabled. In the LAN or high speed internet section right click on each of the connections and click enable. Enable them all and then check if your ethernet port works. hope this helps
Thanks for your help but it's probably a faulty port. I called Sony and they will get it for service.
fair enough was worth a shot i guess
