Afternoon,
Hopefully someone can help me as im getting really annoyed as I have this Vaio laptop and the blu ray drive has been working fine for the past year but recentley it has begun freezing when watching DVD or playing CD's and the only way to get it to work again is to shut down the laptop. Now I have been burning CD's DVD's to see if they work and this work's fine so dont think it's the drive it's self that has a problem.
Plus also I have tried a CD and DVD and transfered all the data off these onto my laptop and it worked fine.
My laptop is running Windows 7
Hopefully someone can help me on this
Paul
Hi Paul,
Have you checked to see if there is a firmware update for your drive?
Check which drive you have and then go to the bottom of this page: -
http://support.vaio.sony.eu/computing/vaio/downloads/updates/index.aspx?l=en_GB&m=VGN-AW11S_B&os=10
Is there a firmware update available?
Afternoon
Thanks for this but it still seems to be doing it, and I was using the latest firmware for the blu ray drive as well
Any other advice?
cheers
Hi Paul,
The only other thing is a bit of a long shot but worth a try. Your BD/DVD Drive may not be operating in DMA mode. Direct Memory Access mode transfers data much quicker than the old PIO (Programmed I/O) mode and has become necessary with the use of faster drives and discs.
Check your drive is using DMA by going to Device Manager and expanding IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers. Double-click on the Primary IDE Channel (or ATA Channel 0) and select Advanced Settings. There may be one or two devices listed - make sure the current mode of all devices is "Ultra DMA Mode X". If not click on enable DMA, exit and reboot.
Now check any Secondary IDE Channel (ot ATA Channel 1.
As I said this is a long shot!!!!!!!!
