vaio vgn-nr32l dvd drive not working

hi, i have a problem with cd/dvd drive on my laptop. when i put in either a cd or dvd into the drive, the computer doesnt play them. you can hear it spin it up and then makes noise as hunting through disc but thats all it does. autoplay box doesnt appear and even selecting to view contents or try to play disc via my computer area has no effect.

please help.

If you look in Device Manager -> DVD/CD-ROM Drives does it show that the drive is working properly or does it show an error code?

So I take it you've tried more than one disc?

I would personally say it sounds like you need a new optical drive. Its obviously still working to the extent of connectivety as it is spinning but its not reading the disc.
