Vertical line on screen

Since November 18 I have been struggling with a problem of a vertical line having appeared to the right of centre on my screen and refusing to go. I am on windows vista home premium and have rolled back 3 days updates to no avail. I have also tried reloading NVIDIA, changing resolution and any other settings which might affect this but still no joy. If anyone has encountered this or can offer any advice It would be appreciated.

Hello,

I just have mine repair for the same problem. well my line was on the left side of the screen from bottom to up! and was WAY larger than yours.

I get it yesterday from repair and they have change the Screen Oo.... Hopefully I was still guaranty ( I bought the SR 31M 3 months ago).

Even if "your line" is not the same has mine ( white line sometimes changing colors...) It is maybe the same problem!

Good luck

Hi BigGeorge, Hi Whitesoul.

Yes - it looks like a LCD fault as it is showing before the Windows OS loads.

What model do you have?

Are you still within the warranty period?

Hi Whitesoul,
Thanks for response, unfortunately out of warranty and nothing in Knowledge base regarding this problem although as you might see another user had a similar problem. If all else fails I will either live with the problem or restore to factory settings and take it from there!

Hi Blencogo,
Thanks for response, unfortunately out of warranty and nothing in Knowledge base regarding this problem although as you might see another user had a similar problem. I have a 4 year old VGN-AR41M which has been fine for my needs. Thought there might be a test for the screen but can't find anyting which relates to this. If all else fails I will restore to factory settings and take it from there!

Hi BigGeorge,

You could try connecting to an external monitor using the VGA socket (Press Fn+F7 to turn it on) and see if the problem shows there. If it does then it points to a graphics chip problem and not a screen problem.

If it doesn't show on the external screen then the Vaio screen is faulty.

As I said I expect the latter because the fault shows up during boot before the nVidia driver is loaded.

Hello again Blencogo,
Looks like I have a screen problem since lines (I have 2 now) do not show on external device. Laptop was purchased August 2007 so am out of warranty. Have had a Dell laptop for about 11 years and never experienced any screen problems so am very disappointed with fault like this since I went for a top of range at the time. This will make me rethink when looking to purchase again!
Tlphanks for your he.
