VGC-V2M TV Tuner on Windows 7 Media Center....

Hi There,
I'm running Windows 7 on my Sony VGC-V2M, and have installed all the drivers, including the TV Tuner libraries, and I have a problem.
Windows Media Center has found 5 Analogue channels after scanning, but when I go to watch TV, it displays nothing. What am I doing wrong, if anything?
I would like to get the TV Tuner to work in Windows 7 if possible.

Cheers,
Dave

Hi Dave,

I believe your TV tuner will not work in Media Centre - it will only work as part of Vaio Zone.

The same problem arose for those wishing to upgrade to Vista from XP over the last few years as the TV card will not work in Media Centre. Sony provided a version of Vaio Zone that would work in Vista.

All I can suggest is that you use the method of installing Vaio Zone in Vista and see if it works in Windows 7.

If you click on the Vaio Zone download here, it gives full instructions and the dependent programs required: -

Cheers for the information.
As usual Sony have done it again!
I know I ran Ubuntu 9.04 on this system before I put Windows 7 Ultimate on this PC, and the Tuner showed up as Hauppage PVR-150.
I've tried Vaio Zone, but I've had no joy, ah well, its not a problem, I'll install my USB DTT Tuner.
I'm just happy I've got Windows 7 Ultimate to work on it.

hi there!

i've got a vaio vgc-v2m with xp home edition and i'd like to upgrade to windows 7. i bought the desktop as an ex-display so i didn't have the discs for the installed programs but i already made recovery discs just in case something goes wrong. is it a straight-forward installation (i.e. insert the installation disc and then run) or is it a complicated process?

Hi ayie75,

It is quite complicated because there is no support for Windows 7 on your model.  There is no UPGRADE from XP so the hard disc needs to be formatted and a clean install of Windows 7 carried out.  You will lose wverything on your computer. You will have to install the VISTA drivers and search yourself for those that do not work and need a specialist Windows 7 driver.

However, as long as you are prepared to lose the TV function and all the Vaio software it should be possible to run Windows 7 on your Vaio - but not everything may work.

Your Vaio is really designed for use with XP and works best that way but if you want to try installing Windows 7 (at your own risk) you can download the Vista Drivers and Utilities from here: -

Hi! Thanks for the warning.

I may have to stick with my xp then. it still works perfectly fine anyway.
