VGN-A115B Booting Problems
Hello everybody!
Lately, I have a problem with my VGN-A115B. When I turn it on it starts to boot up, I can hear hard drive noise, fan etc., but after about 2-3 seconds everything just stops like its booting (lights go out too, go on again after some seconds). The screen stays blank through out the whole time.
I read some posts on this forum and on some others about this problem, but no one seems to have knowledge about this problem (except for the usual guessing like, your HD is dying or "clearly" a main board component problem).
If anyone has some useful hints to what may cause this or how it can be fixed (if possible) please post it here, I would appreciate it.
Many thnx in advance.
Edit: Got the notebook to boot again. Not very stable though, when i move it, it crashs. Any idea what this is. Loose contact or hair crack?

I'm afraid no-one can tell you the exact answer - it is a poor contact in the power circuitry.
This could be as simple as a poor connection in a cable or loose memory modules - or as complicated as a main board failure.
Whatever it is, you need to ask a local repairer to take a look and give you an estimate for the cost of the work required.

God Sony really haven't learnt have they? This sounds just like the GRX issues with RAM.

Thnx for the replies.
I was able to narrow the problem area a little bit. I removed my HD and started the notebook without it. Works perfectly fine, no matter how hard i shake/move it. I am currently testing the HD on my PC, but as far as i can see it works perfectly fine as well.
The only part i cannot test, which i had to remove together with the HD, is a small circuit board that connects the HD to the main board.
Is it possible to order such parts directly from Sony or any licensed dealer? As far as I know its, unfortunately, not possible, since its a "good" way of making money for Sony and their respective dealers.
I would be greatful for any info on that.
Btw, i checked the ram (removed it and inserted it again) seems to be working fine.

Thnx again for the reply.
The item that seems to be damaged is "Sony Vaio VGN-A series CNX-247 IDE Connector" found some on e-bay, but they cost around 50USD. Im not sure if its worth a shot since im not 100 percent sure that this part causes the problems.
Edit: Anyway, if it is not this part than it might be the main board... Time to buy a new notebook 😞

Hmm,
interesting point. Im not really sure how i can apply the right "tension" to the board again. But the tension theory makes sense, since i can boot the notebook without any problems when i hold it in my hands in a certain angle. Sounds strange, but it might be due to the increased/decreased tension on some of the parts.
Thnx for the hint, i will try to find out more on that.
