VGN-A217M DVD-RW DW-D56A FIRMWARE PROBLEM

Hi. The problem is that I've used the update from http://www.vaio-link.com/vu/vu21/vu21.asp?l=en to change my vaio's firmware. I followed all the instructions and this programme announced a sucessfully accomplished mission. So far so good, but when I rebooted my laptop and tried to burn a CD-R it stopped half way through and rejected the CD. Now when I try to read any other CD or DVD it makes strange sounds and nothing happens. I have also tried downgrading the firmware with this tool http://upload.cdfreaks.com/ftools/firmware.exe
and it didn't even change the version of firmware. Same thing happens, so I have no cd-drive..
Please help!

Jesus on the strength of this thread there is NO WAY I am gonna use this DVD firmware upgrade. I can only imagine that the Vaio support in my part of the country (Cork, Ireland) sucks ass far more than anywhere else in Europe, I wouldn't wanna be missing my laptop for anything up to 3 weeks during exam time!

Hope things work out luk4ss

These prats rang me up in the afternoon replyong to my post in the case I posted a week ago, last post was dated on Thursday night and DHL picked it up for them yesterday, but apparently they even wouldn't know about it until I told them! Hyper-idiots, is this the word is should use?
DO NOT USE THIS UPDATE! HACK THIS SITE AND DISABLE DOWNLOADING THIS FILE! 😉
Fortunately they have the drive in stock so hopefully it will only take around 5-10 working days, so I might have it back by the end of the next week!
Fingers crossed!

Sorry for my ignorance, but I can afford it at 1400GBP..
Guess it will be worth extending the warranty period in November, haha..

The reason is probably somebody's laziness and publishing updates that have not been tested properly, I reckon..

Who cares, I'm over it!

Yaha!

Are they around 200, aren't they?
I think I can give it a try, having already experienced this kind of shit that I've been thru.
We'll see, lots of time till end of December!
