I have a vaio vgn-cs11s, I have just restored it to factory settings and now it overheats and shuts down. This happened befoe and it took me ages to fix it, in the end i got a download form the sony site ( i think it was a Bios update) that fixed the problem. But now I can't find that update now, does anybody now where i can find this download or an e-mail for vaio support.
Hi stephencaso and welcome.
You will find all the available downloads on the support page for your model here: -
http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/product/VGN-CS11S_Q/updates
I have downloaded all them, I have Vaio update installed on my computer and it always downloads updates. The download i am looking for could not be installed by Vaio Update at the time, I had to do it manually.
Thanks for you replys.
I got the fan replaced a few weeks after first getting this laptop because the fan sounded like a motor bike. It was ok then for a few months, then it started overheating and turning off when i watch movies or visited a flash based website for example. I didn't use the computer for a few months then and last summer i started using it again, spent a week search forums and the internet, in the end I found a BIOS update on the sony site ( had to download and install it manually, as it would not download with Vaio Update). Anyway after installing the update it never overheated, until i restored the laptop to factory settings last week ( i forgot to backup the update ) and now it's overheating again.
I remember reading about the download /patch that adjusted the speed the fan runs at.
Replacing the CPU fan will solve the problem. Very common cault with this range of laptops.
