I bought this laptop/notebook about 3 months ago, and it's playing up. The laptop doesn't know that it has built in speakers. I've searched through all of the hardware lists on the laptop, and I can't see the speakers anywhere, nor can any of my friends. Also the laptop decides to turn onto windows classic style for no reason. It is "Microsoft Windows Media Center Edition 2005", which also means that I cannot use that, because it is pointless without sound. Could someone please help me? Am I missing programs or something? Please help me. Mel
I bought my wife a VGN-FE31H for Christmas and she (we) have also had problems with the sound 'speakers'. Originally all worked well but after a few weeks all sound was lost and the speaker icon on the task bar had vanished for no apparent reason.
Sony were of very little help and most unhelpful. In the end there only solution was to go back to factory settings and relaod all applications again from the hard drive! This has happened twice more since then and the same procedure has to be implemented.
After each 'back to basic' reset all her special photographs and work has to be re-instated from the back up discs.
In my opinion the FE31H is a heap of junk - I wish I had never bought the Sony laptop for her but rather gone for another cheaper model of equal spec.
Sorry not to be of any specific help to you - just nother rant against Sony!!!
