How do I find out the Hard Drive Type, SATA, Pata and maximum size of drive. I wish to Start-over with a new drive.

Hi Transistor and welcome to Club Vaio.
It is a SATA drive and all 2.5 inch SATA types (1, 2 or 3) will fit.
There is no limit to the capacity as long as the drive is not thicker than 9.5mm. Some of the newer 500GB drives have three platters and are 12.5mm thick - they will not fit your Vaio. I think Seagate and Western Digital are OK.
