Hi
Just purchased this Vaio on Ebay and was wondering if anybody out there knows if I can upgrade it.
At present it has the standard Intel Centrino Duo 1.66GHz CPU and 2GB DDR 2
I have an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.13GHz CPU Socket P to instal and want to upgrade the memory to at least 4GB
I don't know if this Vaio Model is only a 32Bit Motherboard or is cabable of 64Bit and will be upgradable.
Sony's sight does not offer much in the way of information regarding this and also has poor support issues in regards to questions.
Thanks to anyone who can shed light on this.
Regards
Hi. What's the model number on this notebook?
Sony Vaio VGN-NR21M - PCG-7112M
@nikkilim - the model is in the Discussion Title!
Hi Andy.
The present CPU is a T5450 standard voltage Socket P 65nm processor. You don't give the model of your Socket P replacement processor but as long as it is 65nm and standard voltage, it should fit.
The biggest restriction in this model is not the processor but the integrated Intel X3100 graphics chip which is part of the 965GM chipset and will prevent any serious gaming.
Sadly, Sony do not seem to give the full specifications of all models any more.
Hi Blencogo
Thanks for your answer
I've done some more digging and found that it is a 64bit board and therefore cabable of running the core 2 duo I have also looked up the specs for the CPU I have as a replacement for the present 1.66 installed.

I fitted this CPU and it is a match for the existing one, however on boot everything engages but I just get a blank screen.
I'm baffled as to why
Hi Andy.
Check it out but I think the 965GM chipset cannot support "P" series CPUs because the FSB is too high.
The chipset only supports up to 800mhz as found on "T" series processors but the P7450 has a 1066mhz FSB.
You can still upgrade to 'Penryn' but you would need T8100 or T8300 - the T9xxx is more expensive.
