VGN-NS10L SSD upgrade

Hi Folks,

Any comments, suggestions, pointers to the following most welcome:

I decided to replace the HD on my VGN-NS10L with a SSD.

I transferred all the software /data using EaseUS - this was all fine.

The laptop is under windows 7 - it boots up with the ssd. When I enter a user account I get a blue screen.

I am able to enter safe mode and discovered a driver for 'base system device' is required.

My questions:

1) Do I need any additional driver /software so that I do not get a blue screen when using the ssd?

2) Where can I down load the latest 'base system driver' (I have had a look at the drivers for vgn-ns10l in the sony website but it has things like audio, motherboard etc drivers - where / what exactly is a base system driver?)

Many thanks in advance.

Hi nagorsi,

The Base System Device will almost certainly be the Ricoh card reader/writer. There doesn’t seem to be a Windows 7 driver released by Sony for your model, so if the original Vista driver fails to work then you will have to try the manufacturer’s site:

I have no experience of upgrading to SSD but notice that there is an updated SFEP driver listed for you model under ‘latest Vista downloads’ – apparently this addresses a BSOD problem with a Windows 7 install. Whether this is the same problem you are experiencing I have no idea but it is worth a try.
