Hi everyone
I bought this Japanese model from eBay a few weeks ago. The seller had upgraded it to Windows7, an English version, supposedly with a clean install. The system runs smoothly but in the process quite a number of functions disappeared.
InstantOn replacement wasn't a big issue for I opted for a dual boot with Ubuntu Linux with the Wubi installer.
I had a lot of trouble also with the Japanese keyboard till I eventually found out it had to be selected from the Device Manager...
Now the machine is like 90% functional but I still have problems with the FN keys ie the fn key itself plus the upper row from F1 to F12.
I installed vaio utilities, vaio control center, sony shared libraries and vaio events services from the sony.fr site and thus retrieved a couple of keys (S1 & S2) but that was it.
No zoom (F9 F10), no volume control (F2 F3 F4), same issue with the contrast/brightness keys...this is a tad annoying.
Is it possible to reassign the keys, do I have to install some specific sony software or files?
I guess there must be a solution at sony.jp but as I'm a beginner at the language, my Japanese is way too poor to deal with pages of technical Japanese !!!
Help would be much appreciated. The ice on the cake would be to get in touch with someone who has the same P so that I learn how to improve it and handle it properly.
Thx in advance
I've installed and reinstalled several Sony bits and the FN keys are fully functional. The InstantOn and Splitscreen keys can be assigned hotkey functions via the Control Center. As I said in the post above, I don't care much about InstantOn but the Splitscreen is a nice feature, which seems to be lost for good...
. Any idea about how to retrieve it? thanks
