VGN-S3HP MPEG-4 Video Problems

I recently brought a VGN-S3HP that I use for video capture.
I capture in a number of different formats including MPEG1, MPEG4 and DivX. There seems to be a problem with the MPEG4 video clips when I play them back. If I view the clips at 100% size, they look fine, as soon as I play them at 200% or full-screen, they are really blocky. The MPEG1 and DivX clips playback fine at 200% or full screen.

I have compared the same clips being played back on a S1XP and they appear much better at 200% or full-screen.

I think it is a problem with the graphics card - the S3HP uses a nVidia GeForce Go 6200, while the S1XP uses an ATi Radeon 9700.

Has anyone else experienced these problems or know of a solution?

Hi Zippy.

Welcome to the forum:smileygrin:

Have you had a look to see if there are any updates or patches available for your drivers? Check out www.ati.com

The problem is with the S3HP which has an nVidia GeForce Go 6200 graphics adapter. I installed the latest nVidia driver from the Vaio update site, but still get the same problem. nVidia do not provide updates for the GeForce Go as they leave it to Sony.

The problem is not related to the codec, as I am using the same codec on both the S3HP and the S1XP. The S1XP displays the video fine, the S3HP does not.

I am almost positive it is a problem with the nVidia GeForce Go graphics. It seems really odd that they have a bug like this when playing MPEG-4 format clips.

I agree - as I have mentioned in earlier posts, I also have an S1XP that has Ati Mobility Radeon 9700 graphics, and it doesn't have any problems at all.

The nVidia seems to be a budget, buggy graphics adaptor.
