Hi
I bought a VGX-XL201 from the Sony Centre in Brstol Cribbs Causeway on Saturday. Got it home all excited and unpacked it and plugged it in to my other (Sony) gear.
After seting up Media Centre I was watching TV fine and doing everything I should be doing with the unit. OK, so now I though Ill do the Windows updates for it.
BIG mistake - HUGE! After doing all of the Windows Updates, the Tuner in the machine (Aver
dia A16C) is no longer recognised my Media Centre!!!! Whenever I go into Settings to try and tune stations in, I am told by Media Centre that a tuner cannot be found, and that either the hardware is malfunctioning, or the drivers aren't up to date.
Anyone got any ideas? I have already tried updating the Avermedia drivers (even tried the Vista drivers!)
I find it hard to believe that a unti such as a Media Centre PC from a large comapny like Sony should be aoud to go into circulation before it is ready! They held off on the PS3 launch for the same reason - why not the XL series? I am at my whitts end - but a Media Centre PC with no TV function is fairly useless to me - anyone else having difficulties?
Thanks in advance for eny responses!!
Hi,
Je suis dans la même situation que toi !

Après un Windows Update, impossible d'utiliser le Media Center.
Cordialement,
Hi ben_keene and koxinga.
Welcome to Club Vaio.
This problem seems to be caused by a Microsoft Update. Is there anything in THIS THREAD that helps?
Thanks Blancogo.
I had the same problem after buying the XL201 today and installing the recommended Windows hotfixes.
To fix it I ran the .bat file in one of the posts in the thread you linked. Saved me hours of frustration.
Regards
Bruce
Hi Bruce - welcome to Club Vaio.
Glad you've got it sorted - it can be a bit of a pain.
Hope you enjoy your Vaio.
Thank you so much for your help. Looking through the thread you offered has given me a lot to think about.
After my frustrations I decided to go out and buy a Hauppage WinTV-Nova-T 500 Dual DVB PCI Card. I reformatted the Media Centre (again) and as soon as I was able to I disabled the Avermedia card. Turned the machine off and installed the new PCI card (there is room for 1 card on a spare PCI slot indside). Turned the machine back on, loaded the new drivers, and hey presto - I can now record and watch different programmes at the same time! Woohoo!
By the way - when I opened the machine to install the new card I saw the Avermedia card was also in a PCI slot on the riser. There were wires coming from the card to the front of the machine. Does anyone know whether these wires are just for the ffront AV inputs? Or are they for something more serious? My real question is - Can you remove the Avermedia card and install another dual card without any ill effects, or port problems on the fron/ back etc?
Cheers guys - I find this forum very informative and I would like to say thanks for the excellent posts!
Keeping it groovy - (especially with the dual tuners) - Ben
PS - After I installed the new card etc - I have not touched Microsoft update - only to install the .NET framework needed for MyMovies plugin.
You're correct, the cables are just for the front A/V sockets. You can leave the Aver card installed, just don't set it up in Media Centre. You can then still use the front sockets in other Windows apps. if you ever need them.
Hi, had the same Problem!
did Reinstall 3 times to find out when the problem occures: after installing MediaPlayer11 my TV isn't working on XL201
bawz9z: can you please tell us exactly how youfixed the problem?
Hi Pierre Rey,
In the posting from Blencogo (sorry for the mis-spelling earlier) he has a link to a thread surrounding this problem, and in the thread there was a link to a .bat file (as below) produced by LiMoEiRo.
Link to .bat file
I downloaded and ran this (through the start-> run command), and it fixed my problem.
Hope this helps
Bruce
