I have been given a Vintage Vaio PCG-F801 with AMD k6 Processor. It had Windows XP loaded but would not work correctly so formatted and reinstalled Windows 98SE but now having trouble getting the drivers for Windows 98SE. Also is there a program like Sis Sandra that I can use to determin the Motherboard etc.
At the moment have no internet connection as the laptop does not have ethernet connection and only have a
Wireless Lan Cardbus PC Card (Peak) but alas no drivers so this does not work.
I need the following if anyone can help someone who is perhaps mad to go backwards with this laptop but would like it to be back as it was.

This model was released with Windows ME preinstalled and there would also have been a two-set Recovery Disc Set provided - so these will be the only available supported drivers from Sony and you would expect them to work with XP: -

I think you will find the motherboard is a custom Vaio type and support for it will only come from Sony or the individual component manufacturers. It may be worth asking Vaio support if they still have an original Recovery Disc set for sale as this may be the only way to get everything to work.
Google brings up several offers of Recovery Disc software for this model but You will have to decide if it is worth it.
This laptop is all original and has the Windows 98SE key sticker on the base it has never had Windows Me installed. I just want to load drivers for Windows 98SE as it does not have a large disk and only 128mb ram onboard.
That's odd - this seems to be the only F801 listed on the Vaio Europe Database. This C-Net review confirms 98SE

It's not on the US website either, so the Vaio Europe website may be wrong. Let's see if anyone else has any info.
Thank you for your help on this as I have windows 98se loaded is there a prog that would work on windows 98 that will give me the motherboard infor and chipset etc as I can do in Windows XP Pro sis Sandra will not work have tried that need an earlier version or something else that would give me the information and perhaps solve the problem of this laptop. But most of it below is correct from what I can find out at this time.
Thanks again for you help and input.
