Hi
I plan on purchasing Windows Vista soon, and I was planning on downloading the "beta" software from the Sony site to install on my Vaio Laptop (VGN-S5XP/B), however, when I go to the download site, I am unsure which series my laptop falls under?
The choices are:
VGC-RC202
VGC-RC204
VGC-VA1
VGX-XL100
VGX-XL2 series
VGC-LA1
VGN-BX3 series
VGN-FJ2 series
VGN-FJ3 series
VGN-AR1 series
VGN-AR2 series
VGN-FE1 series
VGN-FE2 series
VGN-FE3 series
VGN-N1 series
VGN-FS4 series
VGN-FS485B
VGN-FS5 series
VGN-C1 series
VGN-SZ1 series
VGN-SZ2 series
VGN-SZ3 series
VGN-TX3 series
VGN-TX4 series
VGN-TX2 series
I imagine it will be in the SZ1, SZ2 or SZ3 series?
Thanks for any help

Hi StuMcBill
There are only a few updates available for your S5 at the moment..
From Sony..
Important information about Microsoft Windows Vista
Windows Vista drivers and utilities are in development and will be released by the end of March 2007. Some drivers and utilities are already available. Click here to see the available downloads.
Unfortunately your S5 model is not listed at the moment..
Hi StuMcBill
I've have a Sony VGN S3XP laptop and will be waiting until the end of March to see which VISTA updates Sony will be releasing for the S series (if at all ), before upgrading to Vista Business.
If I were you, I'd wait before commiting.

If I were you, I'd wait before commiting.
I 've noticed that some vista drivers for the S5 series have been released. They are actually the same as in the SZ and they work, except for the brightness control.
So do we have to wait for a bios upgrade next week or that is all for the S5 and I am missing some trick?
Yeah I noticed that they were available now!!
The only 2 things I am worrying about is, will my Wireless Card still work and can I just install standard Nvidia graphics drivers?
I plan on installing it on Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 before actually installing it on my Main HD to see if everything works!!
Thanks
Stewart
Wireless (even with the Vista included drivers) works at least for me (S5 HP/B). Also yesterday I installed nvidia latest vista driver 101.41 that also works ok.
The main problem is that battery-draining brightness which cannot be reduced as in XP. Without this, even the "vaio power management" is of little use.
So here are a few questions-perhaps anyone reading this post may help:
-Is the brightness issue related to the nvidia driver, the windows, or the hardware?
-Does sony plan to release any other piece of software/drivers that will address this issue (inside its end-of-march plan?)
Its a pity that after 4 months I now tend to get tired and really considering rolling back to XP just for the brightness issue.
My laptop is mostly plugged into the Mains anyway and I dont like the lower brightness settings, so that will not bother me much!
Thanks for the help!!
