well answers please? and why?
For me no because i do not trust their quality checks, i think they try and rush out the latest fashion craze and then get on with designing the next.
Their driver downloads/documentation are dismal to say the least
I have to say I have always been a big Sony fan. We bought our first Sony laptop about 5 or 6 years ago and it is still going strong. After that I had a C1VE (still I think the most beautiful design I¿ve seen.) and that is still soldiering on, even after being upgraded to Win2000. After that came a TR2 and a GRT-916Z. We¿ve just bought a T1XP (waiting for that to arrive.)
I can¿t say I have ever had any problems with quality of build at all. Perhaps we¿ve been lucky. Personally I think the build is extremely good, especially having seen some of the horrors from other manufacturers that have drifted across my path. Keyboards not fitted properly, overheating processors etc. The cooling systems are excellent. I don¿t think they can be beaten on design. For design and build I¿d give Sony a good 9 or 10 out of 10
I have to agree that my dealings with tech support have not always gone as smoothly as I would have hoped. On the plus side they do answer the phone quickly and I have always been able to understand the person on the other end of the phone at least. Luckily (touch wood) I¿ve never had to send a PC away. I¿ve managed to sort most things myself. A lot depends on who answers the call. Same as everywhere else. I¿ve had Microsoft ¿engineers¿ assigned to my cases and I¿ve known more than they have. I¿d give tech support from my experiences with them a 6 out of 10.
Sadly, I would have to say, given the range currently available; I would have to think long and hard before going for another though. It seems to me that they are moving away from the Ultraportables, which is a crime.
Since my C1VE that STILL attracts admiring looks and ¿ooh! Aaaahs!¿ from those that see it through to my beloved TR2, Sony has always had cracking ultra lights. At the launch last year in Brussels there were ¿waffer thin¿ babies weighing in at under a kg. Where have they all gone?? There is a T1XP, which although is a lovely beastie, it is a step backwards from the TR5. No camera, not as pretty. What¿s going on?
Come on Sony. Don¿t lose the plot now.
Gotta give it to Sony, the C series was excellent, cool little design, and cool widescreen display, and the Transmetta CPU is excellent for power - I have heard people getting 2hrs from the battery!
It's also able to capture MPEG2, you really can't ask for more!
I hope Sony do a retro series (like re-release the C series but updated with new tech)!
off topic a sec,
ya know one of my friend in japan told me that who ever work with sony in japan peoples will look up to them.. and ther person's family will be very very proud even if he/she is just a toilet cleaner in sony.:smileyhappy:
Amen to that Kee-Lo. A re-vamped, re-release of the C-series would be something to see. I was having a cup of coffee in some airport and even the tea lady came over to have a look at my C1VE. There is still nothing like it anywhere.
I thought the TR series was a bit chubby and certainly the ugly cousin of my C1, but the new T1 is a step back from that. The thing that set Sony apart from the outset was design.
With the new models they have sunk to the same look as everyone else. Square. In every way.
The fact that the C series was the size of two CDs put together was just so cool.
Eugene : cool
This has opened a can of worms, and for some reason people always like to complain and are slightly more reluctant to praise.
So would I by a Vaio again:
YES!
Sony Technical support is complete s***, but I have experienced all the major branded laptops, and they all have their fair share of problems, and although I would rank Sony tech support down their, the others are far from perfect. Lets not get to carried away, I have heard of and experienced exceptionally bad service from Dell, HP and IBM.
Let¿s face it you get a Vaio because it is cool and besides `Club-Dell¿ doesn¿t have the same ring to it.
Yeah but then I could have the nick Dell Boy LOL
Who would you say you've had the best deal with?
