Window 7 Upgrade

I bought a VGN-NR38E/S at the end of december last year,is there going to be a Windows 7 upgrade availiable for this model ?

Just enquired about my VGN-AR71ZU, Sony say "NO UPGRADE FOR THIS MODEL."

Only bought it six months ago.

Hi Gareth and welcome to Club Vaio.

Microsoft will only allow maufacturers like Sony to offer a Windows 7 Upgrade on computers bought between 26 June 2009 and 31 January 2010.

The reason they do this is because no-one would buy a new PC if they knew a new Operating System was being released imminently, so this scheme is to promote new sales by making the upgrade free.

If your Vaio was bought before 26 June 2009 then you will have to buy a lisenced Microsoft Upgrade from Vista or a clean install upgrade from XP.

Because of the workload Sony are only supporting models sold since 26 June initially but they will be releasing the additional required drivers when possible. The truth is that very few additional drivers are required to upgrade from Vista and if you do a bit of homework you can upgrade now. Unfortunately, as for every new OS in the past, you will have to buy the new version unless you qualify for the free Upgrade Scheme.
