Tried to upgrade to Windows 7 on my (nearly new) NS20Z. Install failed near to end after search for new driver on internet failed. No details of which driver.
I am unable to run the windows 7 upgrade advisor(will not launch from saved location or run from Microsoft site directly).
After the install failed I chose to launch Vista from the boot menu but went into Windows 7 anyway. I had problems with Windows 7(could not start any of the program launch files and I had lost all of the included software for Vista)so I reinstalled Vista from recovery discs.
I have now downloaded all Vista updates from Windows update and Vaio updates from Vaio update, I have no other software installed other than McAfee Internet Security supplied with Vaio but I am worried about trying to install Windows 7 again after the last attempt. I am not sure if all of the Windows 7 drivers available for the NS20Z and I still cant rtun the upgrade advisor. Has anyone out there moved to Windows 7 from Vista Home Premium(32bit) successfully? Are new drivers available for this machine ? If so what is the best method to make sure I have all of the new drivers before trying to upgrade agains ?
ps I have run antivirus checks and nothing has been found which would block the upgrade advisor
Hi philandliz and welcome to Club Vaio.
Sony do provide the drivers needed in addition to the Vista drivers already installed. You can find them here: -
http://support.vaio.sony.eu/computing/vaio/downloads/updates/index.aspx?l=en_GB&m=VGN-NS20Z_S&os=10
It may be worth loading these onto a USB Stick.
It is important to make sure the Vista installation is fully patched and up to date and that you choose the option to stay connected to the internet during install. Also go to Vaio update and check for any Updates there. Finally shut down or disable McAfee before starting the upgrade. Make sure you choose the option to 'Update In-Place' when asked.
If it fails to find all the drivers then see if you can open Device Manager and find all devices with a yellow warning '?' and see if they are available from the link above.
Good Luck.
