I wonder if anyone can help or guide me. I have recently upgraded my SZ5 laptop via a clean install from Vista to Windows 7. I am now unable to access my external viewsonic monitor - the laptop can't see it ? In addition the max resolution is now 1024 x 768 and I have about an inch either side of my screen that is now black and not useable ? I am missing something obvious but can not think where to start ?
If you did the upgrade via Sony you will have had 2 discs, one for windows and one for the sony drivers for win 7 did you try this disc?
If you bought the update direct you probably need to download drivers from Sony?
Hi msc66.
It sounds like you have not installed the nVidia graphics driver. All you need to do is to install a WHQL signed nVidia driver and you should be OK.
Go to this link and download Version 17637_Vista.exe and put it somewhere you can find it easily.

The webpage is incomplete so just click on "Click here to download driver and INF files" and then click on "Click here to download the requested driver" at the bottom of the next page.
Now make sure your Vaio is in 'SPEED' mode (you may have to select 'Speed' and then reboot to make sure you are in Speed Mode) and then double-click on the downloaded .exe file to install the new driver.
You may need to reboot.
This should put your screen right and also enable the VGA output.
