Windows Sidebar

Lost my Windows Sidebar and can't recover it !
I Share a Sony Vaio laptop with my sister and we have separate User Accounts set up. She has her Windows Sidebar but I have lost mine. When I try to get mine back I get a warning message that only the System Administrator can change these settings. I have a User Account with admistrator permissions, but can not find out how to log in as a System Administrator to try to resove this. Any help ?

I have the same problem and have been unable to find a solution. I took my Vaio to PC world and they said that the new VISTA update is expected to fix the problem but they are not convinced.

Hi Mafoo1 & Azmoedeus,

welcome to Club Vaio..

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly, these problems might require that you reinstall your operating system.

To back up your registry follow the guide on the web site using the following link: Vista: Backup or Restore the Registry

Press the windows key+R to open the Run box then type Regedit.

Registry Editor starts.

In Registry Editor, expand My Computer, and then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

Expand SOFTWARE, then expand Microsoft and then expand Windows

Expand CurrentVersion, and then expand Policies

Finally expand Windows then click on Sidebar

Right-click on turnoffsidebar and change 1 to 0.

Exit Registry Editor

Restart your Vaio

I had this problem with my new VAIO. It appears that sony want you to use the bundled google side bar.

follow the guide by Thalamus, it solved it for me so should work for you!
