WinDVd BD won't start

It crashes everytime it opens. Even before it didn't play many Blu ray discs. Is there anyway to fix it? I've found it a really awful programme. Would I be better off buying something else? If so what? How about nero?

most but not all of the pre-installed applications can be re-installed without doing a full Recovery, unfortunately Win DVD is one of those programs that can't...

Have you checked if there is a Win DVD update for your Vaio..

Either by the VAIO Update Utility: double click on the Vaio Update icon in your system tray and follow the instructions.

Yes, I downloaded the two patches available but both give me the error message "this upgrade can't apply to your version of WinDVD, setup will abort".
