Just bought Sony WH1000XM3 4 days ago and everything was great until i updated the software to 4.1.1

I loved these headphones mostly because of the noise cancellation, i was sitting in library at my university, and i couldnt here a single person, just minimal mumbling when i didnt have music playing. After upgrading to software version 4.1.1, the noise cancellation is noticably worse and specifically with peoples voices. I can clearly hear people now, even when they are speaking at a low volume. Why is that?

Hello @Arthur238,

check whether your Noise Cancellation is really switched on (preferrably inside the Headphones Connect App).

The update only added Alexa support and did not change anything about the Noise Cancellation.

Hello @Arthur238,

what exactly do you mean by "max setting"?

If you are talking about the "Ambient Sound Control" Slider, it blocks out less noise the farther it is set to the right.

The ambient sound sliderThe ambient sound slider

The behavior is the following:

  • Ambient Sound Control Off = No active NC nor does sound get feed trough actively)
  • Ambient Sound Control set to the lowest value = Strongest NC (same as if you set NC to "on" on the headphones)
  • Ambienst Sound Control set to any other value than 0 = Sound gets actively feed trough the headphones

I am sure it was different in the past (before the update).

Then it was behaving like this:

  • Ambient Sound Control Off = No active NC nor does sound get feed trough actively)
  • Ambient Sound Control set to the lowest value = Strongest NC
  • Ambienst Sound Control set to any other value than 0 = When in NC "On" mode this level of Ambient sound gets actively feed trough
  • Switching to "Ambient Sound" on the headphones = All the sound gets feed trough, no matter which position the slider is at.

I mean max NC, meaning all the way to the left

Yes, the 4.1.1 update stuffed up the noise cancelling for a lot of people (see other posts on this forum, Europe forums, reddit, etc.) Especially with voices.

Sony's response is that we are imagining it.

Needless to say, Sony won't be my next choice for consumer electronics.
