Hello all,
I purchased the Sony MDR-1000X headphones from Amazon UK in April 2017, and noticed the headband crack just a few days ago. I've treated the headphones well, and there is some general wear as you'd expect, but no drops or rough handling, and the headphones are in pretty good condition aside from the crack.
I also read that Sony has apparently acknowledged this headband/hinge crack has been an issue for headphones with serial numbers between 5000001-5256984. I can confirm that my headphones' serial number is within this range
I believe this means that I am entitled to a claim under warranty, as it's been just under two years since I purchased these headphones, but my account is claiming I just get a one year warranty, and I am currently abroad (arriving back in the UK just 4 days before the 2nd anniversary of my purchase, i.e. when my warranty is up) so phoning support isn't a realistic option.
Could anyone help walk me through the process of getting a successful repair/replacement without having to deal with too much back and forth or claims that I should pay for this... I have heard relatively negative accounts of Sony's warranty service, but I'm sure the actual customer service reps to a good job!
You should start an exchange ticket from Amazon and continue from there, thats the simplest and most efficient way!
Thanks for the tip, Joel!
I'll give that a go, but imagine that Amazon will just direct me back to Sony. The support they seem to offer is just "help getting set up" etc. I don't seem to have the option to do any sort of warranty/return process on any product I bought in 2017, including these headphones
