Noise interference with WH-1000XM4 headphone

My recently purchased WH-1000XM4 headphones seem to be working satisfactorily except for one thing. After the two bluetooth connections are made, a relatively low volume, high frequency sound can be heard from the LH side. 

 

The sound is not continuous and alternates on and off every few seconds. It can be heard when musicisn't playing and during quieter sections of music.

 

The sound was not present before I installed the app.

 

Can anyone suggest how to diagnose the cause of this fault?

@iain.jack I think that this might be a software issue, so updating it to the latest version as mentioned here would help also you can try to reset it and initialize it to refresh the headset to get it all sorted but if it remained I guess it is better to contact Sony directly so they can check it for you.
