I wrote a lengthy post a moment ago about the issue of NW-A45 devices not transferring data but i couldn't get it posted. The message board kept deleting it.
The problem concerns the issue of the NW-A45 deleting files from the MicroSD card. You put in the card and the files are there up to a certain point. But then they just disappear, apparently deleted. Several people have had this issue.
The gist of my original post was that you can find detailed information on the errors that are reported by the system by going to program data folder, then Sony Coporation folder, then OpenMG folder. From there is a file called msc that will give a full list of what errors given for the cause of the issue.
It seems the software is checking data on the sd card and returning failed values. In short, it can see the card but doesn't know its properties. Have a look at your own msc files if you have this issue.
tried and failed:
-Installing on Media Go and Music Center.
-Installing via different card readers, and the walkman itself.
-Formatting with 'SD Card Formatter' software.
-Installing files in bulk, in smaller chunks, and one album at a time.
-Installing from different drive libraries.
-various other efforts that I've forgetten.
I'm using a Samsuing 250GB EVO plus card for this. In the past I've used a Samsung EVO 64GB card and had no issues.
Any ideas, suggestions, or methods tried to workaround this issue (even if they failed) would be most welcome.
I’ve seen other threads where they have bought a Sony card & had no problems, I think I’m going to try that next.
I'm waiting for a response from Sony. They said they'd get back to me in a couple of days. I'm guessing they're going to find that some cards are incompatible at the moment. I'm hoping they'll release a fix for the firmware. I can't see any other way of this being resolved.
The problem is, people have been going around blaming the problem incorrectly on fake or faulty cards. This misdiagnosis makes it harder to fix the problem because it obfuscates the issue.
I hope they release a fix for this. Meanwhile I've stumped up for a Sony 128GB card & lo & behold I no longer have any problems. The packaging stated that the card has "approximately 115.2GB available" which when checked with Win 10 disk management is showing as 117.75GB with 16MB unallocated - why the full 128GB is not available only Sony knows.

the solution is the difference between Gigabyte and Gibibyte

I've got an Samsung Evo Plus 64gb in my NW-A45, I copied and pasted the music from my music folder in explorer to my SD card. I've not had any issues with music being deleted.
I don't use any 3rd party software also I can either connect my player and select the SD card on the player or remove the SD card and use SD card adapter in the pc to transfer music from explorer.
As I mentioned in my original post, the Samsung 64GB EVO works perfectly with the NW-A45. I have this card and can confirm it is compatible with the NW-A45.
The card that does not work is the Samsung 256GB EVO Pro. This card is NOT compatible. I have both cards - one is compatible, one is not.
Hope that clears things up.
Is it possible that the player can only take up to a certain sized sd card?
I believe its possible to install RockBox which is an alternative operating system that lets you put in a higher capacity sd card.
I've used RockBox in other devices, but not on the Sony NW A45.
Its possible, but as I understand it the capacity of the SD card used on the NW-A45 is much larger than 256GB. In fact some people are happily using cards of 256GB capacity, just not the Samsung 256GB EVO Pro. Sony cards top out at 128GB as far as I know.
I think what has caused the confusion is that people on this forum have been wrongly told by posters that their cards are fake or faulty and so aren't reporting the issue of cards failing to Sony. I was told in this forum my card was faulty and it clearly isn't - it works on my A15 Walkman perfectly. The NW-A45 has issues that prevent certain cards working with it. Forum experts, though well-meaning, have discouraged the reporting of this fault by blaming the card and not the Walkman.
Some Samsung cards are fine and all Sony cards are fine. Sony cards only go up to 128GB as far as I know, so if you want a larger capacity card you need to get another brand. Samsung is an excellent brand and the EVO Pro cards are superb, but as of now they don't work in the NW-A45 (though they do work in the A15).
I'm still waiting for Sony to get back to me.
I wasn't aware that Sony did Micro SD cards other than the Memory Stick Pro you use in a PSP handheld games consoles. Which are proprietary cards.
