Sony MDR-ZX770BN & Pairing Issues

Greetings all,

A year or so back I was given, as a present, MDR-ZX770BN headphones. I have listened to music over them numerous times on my smartphone, albeit plugged in, and the sound quality is fantastic. When I first got the headphones I managed to pair them to my smartphone using the one-touch facility.

A couple of nights ago I decided to have a clearout of bluetooth connections that I no longer needed (either those from vehicles I used to drive at work and which work have since disposed of, or from cars that I no longer own) and, in the course of this, accidentally cleared the pairing settings for the MDR-ZX770BN headset. I later realised my error and decided to try and re-pair the headset with the smartphone by using, as with the first time, the one-touch facility. The two refused to pair several times (message came up: "Cannot pair with MDR-ZX770BN") so, in accordance with the instructions given in the online guide - https://helpguide.sony.net/mdr/zx770bn/v1/en2/contents/TP0000773510.html - I put the headset back to factory settings to clear the pairing information. I have since tried again numerous times to pair the headset and smartphone but with no success.

Wishing to use the headset with a piece of software on my PC - called "TeamSpeak 3" which I also have installed on my phone - I decided to check if my PC had a bluetooth connection device. It didn't so I went to a branch of a well-known chain and purchased a bluetooth adapter (ASUS USB-BT400 Bluetooth 4.0 USB Adapter) for £12. I again cleared the pairing information on the headphones as per the link above and have now been trying to get my PC - which acknowledges the presence of the bluetooth adapter - to read the headphones and pair with them. The devices found are my TV (a Samsung one) and, if I run the bluetooth on it, my phone. But, once again, not the MDR-ZX770 headset.

The fact that I can listen to music over the headset is very welcome and I can continue to do that by connecting the input wire to the smartphone. But can anyone think of a way by which I might get the MDR-ZX770BN headset to pair with my PC and the smartphone? The whole scenario is getting more than a bit irritating.

PC: HP Pavilion running Windows 8.1

Smartphone: Samsung Galaxy S6 running Android 7.0

I have never taken the headphones out in public and am 100% confident that I have never dropped, or otherwise damaged in any way, the MDR-ZX770BN headset. Suggestions welcome.

Thanks,

Dave

Hi Dave,

Welcome to the community.

It does sound irritating - I'll look into this for you and see if I can find anything out. Someone else in the community may be able to advise in the meantime.

Thanks,

Pascale

Hi dch4282,

I find this a bit unusual to be honest. I can see that the phone is fully compatible with the headphones. Could you try performing a simple reset to the headphones as explained here: https://bit.ly/2U3IY54 and try again?  I'd also recommend trying to pair the headphones using the steps here: https://bit.ly/2U3JgZI.

Cheers,

I have the very same earphones and after a while of using them with the wire I decided to connect to my Sony  ZX1 phone. I cannot even get Bluetooth Pairing Mode to start no matter how/when I hold the Power Button or for how long. Also when using NFC it reacts to the presence of the phone/earphones but then says 'Cannot communicate with etc...). I've also tried the factory reset etc. No good so far.

Any ideas anyone?

I know this is an older thread but I'm wondering if a solution was found. I have the same headphones that unfortunately stopped working via bluetooth but will work fine via wire. I discovered the NFC capability today to so I am able to connect to my phone again wirelessly which is fantastic but as my computer lacks NFC capability I'm unable to use them to watch films and such. I'd love to be able to use this via bluetooth again.

It sounds like a similar issue, I used to use this bluetooth to my pc and phone but now it's no longer found on either my phone or pc when they are able to find other devices. I just don't understand why the bluetooth would brake in the headphones but everything else works fine.

huh I just managed to do this via holding down the power button and the NC button at the same time to power on. Before this it was just flashing blue, red, red, red but afterwards it made a different noise flashed, blue, red, blue, red... and allowed me to connect. I

It doesn't say to do that in the manual or troubleshooting, thought I'd just try pressing everything down at once...
