Is there any MiniDisc repair/servicing experts out there? - I could really use your help!

I recently purchased a SONY MZ-NH600 from ebay and the seller confirmed that the item was "in brand new condition".

When the item arrived, the display screen was not working.

The seller asked me to return it for inspection which I did.

The seller is stating that the fault is highlighted in the red circle of the attached photo.

Is there any MiniDisc repair/service experts out there who can confirm this as this just looks like polymer shielding?
