WH-1000XM2 firmware update failed

I'm trying to update my headphones from 1.0.5 to 4.1.1 (yeah, I know), but it consistently turns me down. The companion app downloads the update and transfers it to the headphones, but the update itself halts at 9%. I've tried different phones, resetting and restoring factory settings, but to no avail. 

Any quick fixes out there?
